About Lanka Powerboat Association

The Lanka Powerboat Association was founded in October 2011 and was the 57th nation to join the UIM. As a result, Sri Lanka is eligible to host UIM events to showcase the sport and the country to national and worldwide audiences. The Association held a launch event at the Cinnamon Lakeside hotel on Beira Lake in October 2012.

The event showcased F1 Powerboats and Jet Ski racing to the media.

LPA AIMS

  • Develop the skills and capability and need for powerboats to be manufactured in Sri Lanka
  • Inspire Sri Lankan’s to try powerboating by providing regular training and events
  • Create a Sri Lankan national team to compete on the world powerboat circuit
  • Establish Sri Lanka as regular hosts of races on the world powerboat circuit

POWERBOAT LICENCE

This Licence is issued to all new comers and those returning to the sport after a break of more than two years.competitors are required to undertake a 2-day Advanced Powerboat Race Training Program. On satisfactory completion of this training, the LPA will issue a provisional Powerboat Racing Licence.
Competitors wishing to upgrade to a National License must compete in five powerboat racing club rounds and demonstrate competence and ability to the satisfaction of the OOD. Competitors’ Must Present their powerboat racing upgrade form to the OOD prior to the drivers briefing. This will be signed by the officer of the day at the end of the event providing he is satisfied with the competitor's Performance.
Competitors wishing to upgrade to an International License Must compete in three National rounds and demonstrate competence and ability to the satisfaction of the OOD in accordance with the Advanced Powerboat Race Training Program. Competitors Must present their powerboat racing upgrade form to the OOD prior to the drivers briefing, this will be signed by the officer of the day at the end of the event providing they are satisfied with the competitor's performance.

Please note that the following information only applies to people wanting to race at a club, national or international level. NO LICENCE is required if you do not wish to race and you only use your boat for leisure purposes. All Sri Lankan residents who wish to take part in Powerboat Racing in the Sri Lanka must hold a valid Powerboat Racing licence issued by the Lanka Powerboat Association. All Sri Lankan residents who wish to take part in International racing must hold a valid International Powerboat Racing licence issued by the Lanka Powerboat Association.

ALL COMPETITORS APPLYING FOR AN INTERNATIONAL POWERBOAT RACING LICENCE MUST COMPLY WITH ALL UIM ANTI-DOPING REQUIREMENTS AND COMPLETE THE UIM DECLARATION FORM INCLUDED.

Please note all licences issued by the LPA are valid for 1 year.
