The main aim of the Propstar Training Program, is specifically designed for children but
is an excellent start for adults to get involved, is to encourage people to participate
and excel in water sports and to educate them in the proper way to practice. It is
the core for providing specialist training along with an instructive foundation in
general boating skills, namely
Seamanship
Boat Handling
Water Safety
Environmental Consideration
The course is taught by internationally, highly qualified powerboat instructors with many
years experience. Safety of the children is our utmost priority whilst still ensuring that
they have fun. We provide all the safety equipment required, and our boats and
engines are tested and maintained to European standard.
Sri Lanka was the first country to launch this program in 2016 and it has grown in
popularity since then
Courses will be taught once a month, and starts with the basic introduction to
powerboating. The children will be taught:
Engine control systems and maintenance
Water awareness skills on land and water
On water rules, regulations and safety
Rope work
How to drive a boat round a simple course
Flags and signals
The children will be taught using low powered 9.9HP engines on a P750 boat as shown
below and there will be an instructor in the boat with them at all times. Adults will start with a
15HP engine and quickly move onto the 50HP engine.
There is no substitute for practical, hands-on experience and we provide live demos,
practical experience and classroom teaching.
PROPSTAR TRAINING PROGRAM
The Propstars Training program is delivered in three separate modules.
The Basic module for Powerboat Training offers an ideal introduction to those new to the sport, instruction covers general boating,seamanship, environmental and water awareness skills. The instruction provided at this level will lay the foundation stones of knowledge which will prove to be invaluable as you progress through to the Advanced and Competition levels of this program. Classroom based and on water practical instruction will be provided at each level.
The Advanced course is designed to provide an introduction into powerboat racing and to teach candidates how to get started in the sport and safely compete at club and national levels.
Competition Module: as the name suggests this course is designed to familiarise the applicant with the skills necessary to compete in powerboat racing at both National and International levels. A strong emphasis will be placed o n racing water awareness skills and safety and considerable time will be spent out on the water in simulated racing conditions. In addition to the on water training the theory sessions will consider the racing rules and trainees will be taught the importance of complying with the rules of the sport and working with race officials.
